Professional Review:
Award-winning actress Meryl Streep (Best Actress, SOPHIE'S CHOICE, KRAMER VS. KRAMER, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY) delivers a powerful and uplifting performance in this story of one family's strength and courage in a time of extreme crisis. Plunged into emotional and financial hardship, a devoted mother (Streep), a hardworking father (Fred Ward -- CHAIN REACTION, CORKY ROMANO) and the rest of this close-knit family face a decision that will change their lives forever. As time and options begin to run out, they must find the courage to overcome incredible odds. Widely praised by critics -- you'll find this compelling story of determination and hope both entertaining and inspirational!

   Summary: Well Intentioned
Meryl Streep's acting is excellent, the story is quite hackneyed (another TV "Disease of the Week"). It plays like pure propaganda, making certain medical doctors who treat epilepsy in a traditional way look like monsters and those who treat it by the atypical way using a particular diet appear like angels. The story is highly biased, is a running advertisement for that particular diet, despite the fact that only 30% were cured by it. It does not discuss the successes of the typical tratment. I felt as if I was being pounded over the head with propaganda. Also, the story is not very dramatic and is quite repetitious, and offers very little suspense and surprises.

   Summary: First Do No Harm
This is a must see for any parent, family member, friend or professional that deals with a child with uncontrolled seizures, controlled seizures, using medication, using the ketogenic diet or any other treatment. It depicts a true life scenario that touches deep in the heart to those who have lived the scenario.

Summary: 'This kind of epilepsy requires prayer and fasting . . .'
When Jesus' disciples tried to heal an epileptic boy, they failed. Jesus told them that that type of epilepsy required prayer and fasting. This is a great movie about the efforts of 'established' medicine and other forms of healing. After months of trying all the medical efforts to control this boy's epilepsy with no success, he is scheduled for brain surgery. However, his mother has studied everything she can about epilepsy, and come across a special diet, the Ketogenic Diet, that held out promise. Rather than let the doctors do the surgery in their local hospital, the mother takes the boy to Johns Hopkins Hospital for the diet. It starts out with fasting! At the same time we can assume that the priest and nuns at the convent where they are staying are praying for the little boy. For those who don't have an epileptic child, the real impact of this movie is not felt until the end when you discover that many of the characters were actual child epileptic patients who had been completely freed of epilepsy though the diet, most now adults! Families with an epileptic child will have much to discuss from this movie . . . and maybe even new hope!

   Summary: first do no harm
This is an excellent movie for anyone in the healthcare field to learn more on ethics. The story is awsome and the actors give their all to tell this increditable story and how the healthcare workers can be wrong and need to listen to the parents who are with their childern more than they are.

   Summary: It is about time!
This is a GREAT movie! I would encourage EVERYONE to see this one... even if you have never even known someone with this condition, you should buy this movie. There are not enough movies like this one out there. We need to support this type of film making. I don't want to give the plot of the movie away, so I won't go into great detail. Watching this movie gives me hope. Hope for so many people out there with this illness. Hope that they or someone close to them will watch this and will give this diet a try. Don't give up hope. Thank you to whomever made this film possible.
