| There are two sides to every story, the saying goes. For Alex Haley, one side was roots, the towering chronicle tracing severn generations of his mother's family. The othe side comes to the screen in Alex Haley's Queen, the remarkable history of a paternal side of the author's family. David L. Wolper (Roots, The Thorn Birds) is the executive producer of this acclaimed adaption of the story Haley was working on when he died. Halle Berry plays Queen, daughter of a slave (Jasmine Guy) and a plantation owner (Tim Daly). During the turbulent decades of the antebellum South, the Civil war, Reconstruction and beyond, she searches for a home in the two cultures of her heritage - and at times is shunned by both. Rejection and hate are no match for her unconquerable will, however. Ann-Margret, Danny Glover, and Ossie Davis are among the many stars of this poingnant, uplifting final chapter of the Haley legacy. |

Written on June 17, 2008 Summary: Outstanding performance This is one of halle berrys best performances. She should have received a award for this performance. She is very believable in bringing to life queens real personality and life story Written on May 30, 2008 Summary: Great Movie!! First of all, this movie is UNCUT. I have it taped from when it first aired on TV. So those of you who may have read the previous review that said it was missing parts was incorrect. If you are thinking of getting this movie afte seeing it on TV then get it. It took forever and many petitions to get it on DVD. You will find Halle Berry's performance amazing of course. And the all star cast was incredible. Enjoy.  Written on May 8, 2008 Summary: If only for Haley & Berry If you loved Roots, go for it. It adds another dimension to what Haley had to say about his family roots. If you are a fan of Halle Berry, go for it. She does a great job. (Ann-Margret too, by the way). If you hate overdramatic stories, especially when you are not sure what the story is aiming at, avoid it. It took me forever to watch it because it made me feel like a bad Danielle Steel movie. There is something cheap about the way the story was used to make this saga come to life (!) on screen. Finally, this mini-series has nothing to do in scope & quality compared to Roots. Written on April 29, 2008 Summary: Great Non-Typical Slavery Story This movie I think is totally different from Alex Haley's "Roots". I think that this story shows apart of history that wasn't really the norm back in that time. You should purchase this movie to balance your DVD Collection and show it to your kids. |
