Professional Review:
“The hottest instructor in golf” (Sports Illustrated) takes on old-school gurus with a far more accessible, intuitive, and innovative approach to those essential chip shots, pitches, and bunker rescues.

Veteran golfers know that the secret to a lower score is a solid short game, but mastering those small strokes can be maddening—even for the pros. One of golf’s most revered instructors, Stan Utley now reveals the step-by-step tactics behind his revolutionary short-game techniques in The Art of the Short Game.

After introducing readers to his groundbreaking philosophy that explains why most players don’t see all the shots available to them near the green, Utley moves on to shatter conventional wisdom about stance, grip, and ball position. From choosing the right clubs (including a checklist of must-haves that should always be in your bag) to spin reduction during chipping and fearless sand play, The Art of the Short Game demystifies the most aggravating shots on the links. Though Utley’s primer features a full set of drills, accompanied by more than seventy-five photos, his approach is far removed from the monotonous, mechanical instruction of yesteryear.

Giving a time-tested secret weapon to every golfer at every level, Utley’s short-game methods turn trouble shots into triumph.

   Summary: Great Book!
Simply one of the best books you'll find on the subject. Along with the "Art of Putting", also by Stan, and you are on your way to real improvement. I had the pleasure of meeting Stan a few years ago and looked forward to his books. They were worth the wait and I only hope he finds the time to share more of his insights in the future. Well done!

   Summary: superb teacher
I'd already completely changed my style of putting after reading Stan's "The Art of Putting." Stan offered a simple but fundementally different approach to the Peltz straight back / through method. I've finally found a natural, athletic grip, stance and stroke that I can repeat with confidence. I'm making lots of putts and enjoying it again. "The Art of The Short Game" delivers the same punch for my short game. Stan's clarity and approach are natural and easy to follow. His approach to sand shots are dramatically different than what I grew up with (open face, aim way left, swing outside in). I highly recommend both his books.

   Summary: Improve Your Game Immediately
I read this book with the expectation it would repeat the same old information you hear everywhere else. And while you won't find anything Earth shaking here the methods presented work. I'm not a long ball hitter so I find myself struggling to hit a green in reg to make par however using Stan's methods I'm finding myself chipping for birdies and putting for par. You put enough close chips in the area, some go in and if they don't you have an easy putt. This has really transformed my.

The only drawback is the pictures could be better and at times at times you have to work to understand them but it's worth it. The explanation is simple and easy to put into practice and you'll see improvement almost immediately.

   Summary: Short game help
This book will help any golfer. Itis the first time I've ever seen the mechanics of chipping and pitching all in one place

   Summary: Just OK
Not very in depth. Pictures do not reveal the secrets of the short game. It is pretty much left to figure out on your own. But then again, that is pretty much what golf is all about.
