 Written on June 28, 2006 Summary: Half and Half The first half is incredible, powerful brazillian drums and singing make this an energized and original and fun beginning. But somewhere around the middle, the sound gets very produced with organs and electronic sounds. It goes from raw to overproduced. still a great cd but not as great as the first 5 tracks.  Written on February 1, 2006 Summary: BRILLIANT! if this music doesn't move your feet, sway your hips...You better see a Doc! music like this moves SM into the genre or Classic artists ( I NEVER thought I'd say that!) So much more staying power than HA&TJB, his contemporaries. this one is 'purely worth it'!  Written on September 4, 2005 Summary: Not for the kitch loving bossa nova crowd I was not into this album. The first couple of tracks are exciting, whistle blowers, but the rest of the album dissolves into a fusion jazz experience that I don't go for. This is nothing like Brasil '66, which is what I was hoping for. If you like Jazz fusion w/ a couple accoustic festival numbers thrown in, this CD is for you. Written on June 26, 2005 Summary: This is why we love Brasil! I go back far enough to remember when only Sergio ( with Brasil '66) and Charlie Byrd were doing anything with Bossa Nova in the U.S., and, as a teenaged musician, I remember the effect his music had on me and my acid-rock-infected peers. Maybe we didn't dance to Brasil '66, but we sure listened. We endured the Muzak-like forays into contemporary cover-pop (ie., "Fool on the Hill", "Scarborough Fair", etc.)and then got a little taste of the real "roots" Brazil with cuts like "Voce Abousou" from Vintage '74. Twenty-two years later, Sergio gives us this beautiful gift and makes us all remember what got us so excited about his music in the first place. After years of listening to this CD, I still find it fresh and invigorating and it serves as backdrop for everything from summer barbeques to candle-lit dinners. (Just try to find a more seductive piece than "Barabare") Written on March 19, 2005 Summary: Stupendous! I first checked this masterpiece out at the Garden Grove Library in 1993. Took it home and listened, and fell in love with it instantly. Took the CD back to the library and went out and bought my own copy. Not only are all the tracks brilliant, but the music has aged beautifully. Toe-tapping, thought provoking, and downright enjoyable. Trust me on this. I've been wrong before. BUT NOT THIS TIME. If you're reading this, you're half way home. Unless you're a tree-hugging socialist, or a member of Al-Qaeda you'll love this monumental effort. You deserve this CD. Thanx Sergio.......... |
