 Written on December 25, 2008 Summary: I Wish I'd Had the Breville Years Ago! I purchased The Breville SK500XL Electric Kettle based on the recommendation of a friend. I felt it was an extravagant purchase, but with 4 tea- and cocoa-drinkers in the family, I decided to take the plunge. The Breville is exceptional! The base/heating element stays on the counter and you remove the kettle, which is lightweight and easy to fill. It is NOT loud whilst boiling; but yes, it does continue to heat a few seconds after it has reached boiling point. The pleasant chime, not too loud, lets you know the water is boiling and ready to go. The water level indicator has a pretty blue glow, and the see-through lid is nice and wide to accomodate filling. I truly wish I'd purchased this electric kettle for our family years ago!  Written on December 16, 2008 Summary: Not a good item There are two problems with this kettle. Although it's only six months old, the button that locks and releases the top is starting to get temperamental. And more serious, there are rust stains inside the kettle on the bottom. Yes, they claim it's stainless steel and yes, there are nevertheless rust stains. I would not recommend this item. Hester Diamond Written on December 13, 2008 Summary: it heats water.... that's what they do. The Breville SK500xl does do a good job, in the only task that it is good for. It is able to boil the 1.7lts of water in 8minutes. The chime it makes can only be heard once the switch flicks back to the off position. I got this kettle over all others simply because I like the way it looks next to the other appliances in the kitchen. I knew it would perform the same as the other kettles I've used in the past. Although, I decided to treat myself this time, the price for this kettle is a bit high and that is my only complaint. I mean it heats water.... that's what they do. Written on December 6, 2008 Summary: So useful We had an old Black and Decker electric kettle before this, and not only did the plastic connecting the lid to the pot break, it did not look as nice as this Breville. The Breville kettle is like a piece of art sitting on the countertop. We use it everyday, especially because we now live in a country where we cannot drink the tap. A quick boil in the Breville and we have clean drinking water. Written on December 3, 2008 Summary: Excellent kettle for a committed tea drinker This is the second kettle I bought - I had to take the first one back because it rusted on the inside. I bought this kettle after looking at what was available in the retail stores. It felt more solid than the competitors. I was hesitant in buying it because some online reviews indicated the inside of the kettle had a smell that would not go away. There was a very slight smell at first (a new product smell) - but it disappeared after I rinsed it out. It heats the water very quickly and shuts off automatically after the water has reached a boil - which is nice if you happen to be absentminded. It is noisy when you first turn it on but quiets down when the water starts to boil. I'm glad I spent the extra money and bought this brand. I'm very happy with it. |
