Written on September 11, 2006 Summary: Here Comes the Bride. After the dull and somewhat dismal CHILD'S PLAY 3, the franchise was revitalized with BRIDE OF CHUCKY. Having been dismembered in the previous film, Charles Lee Ray's former girlfriend, Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) gets the pieces back and puts them back together. After performing an incantation, Chucky is brought back to life. Re-united with his former love, Chucky isn't content on being a doll alone and kills Tiffany and resurrects her as a doll, too. They need a couple of human beings to serve as hosts and a young couple who are running away to get married seem like the best candidates. The highway honeymoon turns into a blood-bath on wheels as the murderous dolls enact their devilish plan. Jennifer Tilly was the perfect match to play Tilly and her vivid characterization breathed life into the stale series. Brad Dourif, as usual, does a great job voicing the plastic-death-doll. The other actors in the movie are pretty much standard fare, except John Ritter is a treat to watch as Police Chief Warren Kincaid (he also suffers a particularly gruesome death). The Child's Play movies have always had a lot of comedy involved, but in BRIDE OF CHUCKY, the filmmakers seemed to make the movie more of a comedy rather than a horror flick. In many ways, BRIDE OF CHUCKY is a parody of the entire Chucky franchise. That doesn't mean that the film isn't a horror picture. There is a lot of gore and gruesome acts in this movie, such as nails driven into a person's face. There's just a lot of edgy humor and funny-bad one-liners, too. Next to the original CHILD'S PLAY, BRIDE OF CHUCKY is the 2nd-best film in the Chucky franchise.  Written on August 22, 2006 Summary: Jennifer Tilly gives this series a very needed shot in the arm I never really cared for this series until Jen came to it's rescue. It's almost logical that the series goes to comedy. I think the killer doll theme was done to death (no pun intended) So to keep this storyline alive the producers decided to go the dark comedy route. Makes sense. Jennifer really adds her own brand of dark comedy and that makes it work. Enjoy!  Written on June 14, 2006 Summary: More Of A Comedy But Still Spooky Chucky's back but now he's got a girlfriend & him and his girl go killing in style. This is a pretty cool movie all the same although it doesn't have the same charm and horror of the first 3 this movie is still pretty fun and definitely worth the watch and also with a surprise but yet expected ending.  Written on May 13, 2006 Summary: This is not a HORROR MOVIE! First of all let me say that after watching Child?s Play 2 and 1 I got to say that Chuckie was one of the dolls that used to freak me out back when I was a kid. When I heard a new movie was coming to a release I thought I had to see it. Let me tell you that this isn't an horror movie. Sure it has blood but is nothing special or better than the first movie. Why? Because Chuckie itself is dishonoured this is more like a typical summer flick, it sucks, chuckie in this movie is not even scary anymore. (OMG HE HAS A BRIDE!) Big deal? NO! some of the dialogue in this movie made me laugh and same thing happened with the kills, it just didn't feel like an horror movie. The final sequence of the movie was very well made so that's why my two star rating. If you are a fan of Child's Play give it a rental, but remember that this is not an HORROR MOVIE. Is laughable. Just what the directors had in mind? (Money). Written on May 7, 2006 Summary: Chucky finally ties the knot... BRIDE OF CHUCKY breaths new life into the "Child's Play" franchise with it's doses of black comedy and the excellent work of new director Ronny Yu, who brings a fresh approach to the Chucky legacy. The story picks up several years after the bloodshed of "Child's Play 3", with Chucky's girlfriend Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) stealing back the dismembered dolly from a gullible policeman and reviving him with a voodoo spell. Tiffany aims to keep Chucky firmly imprisoned in her trailer, but he breaks free and murders her, then transports her spirit into a bridal doll. Hitching a ride wih two lovesick teens (Katherine Heigl and Nick Stabile), the plastic-fantastic duo must reclaim a mystical amulet if they are ever to return to human form. This is very much more comedy than horror and is a completely enjoyable ride even if you weren't too impressed with the earlier "Child's Play" films. Jennifer Tilly is hilarious as Tiffany and Brad Dourif once again voices Chucky with anarchic glee. Katherine Heigl and Nick Stabile don't really do much except scream and look pretty, and are completely upstaged by their dolly co-stars. The ending, of course, leaves the door open for yet another sequel ("Seed of Chucky", which I hope to review soon). Fabulous film. |
