Professional Review:
Cheated out of playing nightclub canary Sally Bowles on Broadway in director Hal Price's Cabaret, Liza Minnelli nevertheless delivered an Oscar-winning star turn in Bob Fosse's cinematic reinvention of the show (which had the good sense to retain perverse imp Joel Grey from the stage production). Although the 1972 film discarded several songs from the original score, the new ones sound even better: Minnelli's breast-beating "Maybe This Time," the sultry "Mein Herr," and the salaciously satirical "Money, Money." By placing almost all the pertinent musical action on the stage of the decadent Kit Kit Club, the Kurt Weill-like compositional nuances and political underpinnings bask in the spotlight...that is, when Minnelli stops eclipsing it with her no-holds-barred performance. --Kurt B. Reighley

Summary: As relevant now as it was when it came out.
Not only is this the soundtrack for the most incredible performance to grace the stage, its politics are mesmerizing! After watching the DVD, the music haunted my mind for days until I just *had* to have the soundtrack. That alone says something for the power of this piece of theater. Liza Minelli is at her best; manipulative, cunning, canaiving, vulnerable and incredibly sweet in turns. Joel Gray is amazingly, insanely upbeat. But the most intriguing story in this entire piece is in the background -- as the Nazis subtly pervade society until they have more power than anyone ever suspected -- because people were so self-absorbed they weren't even paying attention.

As relevant now as when it came out. If you've never seen it before, see it now.

Summary: Who sang this song, why did he get no credit, I'm baffled...
It was a great movie, I enjoyed all the music, and all of the songs: I was however, irked and very annoyed that no credit was given to the young guy who sang "Tomorrow Belongs To Me"; when that was the most outstanding song in the whole movie? I do appreciate that other people joined in the song as it progressed, but there is no doubt that the young guy was the 'outstanding' and most interesting voice. Anyone help please?
thank-you.

Summary: Liza - a living legend.
To the point : A classic collaboration between Liza and the composer Kander and Ebb. Two extra songs - Money, Money and Maybe This Time - were written for the film version. But eight songs were cut out from the show that I urged you to hear either in the original Broadway show or the recent revival which is equally good. Cabaret is also avalible in DVD, so not only can you hear Liza's fantastic singing but see her Oscar performance in Cabaret. Liza is a legend on her own , every show she's done is to perfection . Just hope Amazon.com will carry more of her CD's like Liza live from the Radio City Music Hall, Minnelli on Minnelli etc.

   Summary: A Genuine Classic
Before I saw Cabaret on Broadway, and before I heard it's music; I was bonded with the 1972 film first. Even after seeing the broadway show and listening to it's music, the movie was still my favortie. That's why I was so eager to get the soundtrack from it. To tell the truth it's nothing less then extraordinary. Liza Minnelli sounds wonderful, her voice is so powerful and truly potrays the sound of a night club singer. Then Joel Grey is truly in a class of his own. Out of all the other Emcees, he still stands the highest and is definately the most convincing and haunting. This is a amazing peice of work that no Cabaret fan should overlook.

   Summary: cabaret!
This is a characteristic soundtrack for a great movie. There's a song for everyone, here! From money, to love, from happiness, to devastation. This soundtrack can inspire those who need a little uplifting, even those who are already happy can get a good feeling from this soundtrack! It's the best!
