 Written on December 22, 2008 Summary: great for a novice I know nothing about how to scan my slides and pictures. This scanner was so easy, I was up and running within a half hour. I don't have much to compare it with but I really liked it. Written on December 22, 2008 Summary: Great Scanner Recently purchased a CanonScan 8800f to replace an aging canon scanner - and I was not disappointed. It works great, and fast. Now to get all those slides out of the box and onto a disk! Delivery was fast too. Written on December 21, 2008 Summary: Excellent scanner, software takes some manipulating I purchased this scanner to convert my Dad's old (over 30 years old) slides into digital pictures so I could make him a DVD. The installation of both the scanner and the software was a breeze. I am using the default software (ArcSoft's PhotoStudio). In the actual scanning application, the "simple mode" did not capture the colors and definition well enough so I used the "advanced mode". Negative - This took some manipulation to get the images to look right. I also had to do some balance editing on a lot of the slides to get rid of a "washed out" look. Positive - because there are so many options I was able to get almost every slide to look great. I am not sure if newer photos / slides would take as much manipulation. For the most part, I was able to continue to use my computer while it was scanning. However - NOTE - be sure the ScanGear window is the active window BEFORE scanning completes. I am running Vista and if the ScanGear window was in the background when it finished scanning, it hung the application and I had to close it with Task Manager thereby losing the scanned images and having to scan again. I had no other issues at all as long as I played by its rules. Scanning was fairly quick - 4 slides at 4800 dpi took about 5 minutes. I really love this scanner and it does a great job. I haven't used the other editing applications that it came with (Adobe Photoshop Elements) but I plan to. Written on December 20, 2008 Summary: Canon canoScan After receiving the Canon CanoScan 8800f I have put Approx. 9,000 photographs into my computer without a single problem. This machine and its operation are simple and effective. I love the Canon 8800f and would highly recommrnd it to everyone. Written on December 17, 2008 Summary: Pleased I received one of the first units and have scanned over ten thousand documents, slides, and negatives. I use the Scangear driver with Photoshop Elements. I am very pleased to have bought the right product. Comments: My biggest challenge is dust control, which is not the fault of the scanner. I am using a box fan with a filter attached for help. I wish there were descriptions of what the Scangear presets actually accomplish in terms of the input to output transfer function. Sometimes the automatic cropping for negatives and slides gets fooled but the crops are easily corrected by drag and drop. However when one makes any corrections to an image I find the import order into Photoshop is affected and since I automatically save from Photoshop the file order is affected. There are some dust particles under the glass platen. I would like to open the case up to clean but think I need a "clean room" environment to do this or it might get worse. |
