Summary: GOOD FOR CUKOR, BAD FOR HITCH
Probably one of my least favorite Hitchcock films; a movie one would have expected someone like the late George Cukor to direct. There's very little action or suspense;anyone voting this film anywhere near "Vertigo" or " North by Northwest" will be immediately interrogated by Peter Sellers' Inspector Clousseau. Oh sure, we get 3 screaming women right at the start followed by a high speed chase along the Riviera. Then what? Miles of "filler" with only a non suspenseful speedboat evasion and another high speed chase, this time commandeered by the beautiful Kelly. The rooftop climax just isn't very suspenseful to me,simply because there's no one left to suspect save a stranger, Kelly's mother, or the insurance agent. Really, it's almost as though Hitchcock didn't have enough material to work with. This production could easily have been compressed to 60 minutes, locked away in a vault, and used years later on "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". But, that's just meaningless hindsight. What is meaningful is that a beautifully photographed film, with a good backup score, was ruined by an inferior script, loaded with drivel, short on substance.

Summary: Truly Great Actors & Performances
One of Hitchcok's best of the best!
Anyone not yet in love with Grace Kelly will probably be...
Plenty of wit, humor, and the famous Cary Grant style.

   Summary: Sophisticated Thriller!
Cary Grant and Grace Kelly! Need I say more? They are the epitome of class and sophistication!(And favorites of mine!)
In this stylish film Cary Grant plays John Robie, a reformed jewel thief known as "The Cat." But when some jewelry gets stolen from homes on the French Riviera everyone thinks he is stealing it. He meets Francie Stevens (played by the gorgeous Grace Kelly) and her mother. At first suspicious of him, Francie soon changes her mind and sets out to help him with a plan to catch the real thief and clear his name.
Though not as fast-paced as some of Hitchcock's other films, To Catch a Thief is one of my favorite of his films and more than makes up for it with it's delightful actors, gorgeous clothing (designed by Edith Head) and jewelry, and beautiful scenery. I enjoyed this movie immensely and I hope you will too!

   Summary: Grant + Kelly + French Riviera= Hitchcock A+
While known as "The Master of Suspense", director, Alfred Hitchcock stepped into a whole new arena with To Catch A Thief. This film has mystery, intrigue and romance all set in the exquisite background of the French Riviera.
Reformed jewel thief, John Robie (Cary Grant) once known as "The Cat" is suspected of a rash of jewel thefts occuring in the incredibly luxurious hotels of the French Riviera. When he meets pampered heiress, Francis Stevens (Grace Kelly) he sees an opportunity to use her mother, Jessie Steven's (Jessie Royce Landis) fabulous jewel collection to bait the real thief and prove himself innocent. When his plan backfires, Frances, who believes him guilty, proves her love by helping him escape.
The scenery is breathtaking, the costuming (by the legendary Edith Head) is spectacular and the cinematography garnered the 1955 Academy Award for Best Cinematography. It also received Oscar nominations for Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction/Set Decoration.
The romantic chemistry between Grant and Kelly is palpable. Newly restored and better than ever (though the packaging doesn't refer to being remastered, the picture quality is much better) this is a 5 star movie all the way! The extra featurettes are also worthy of checking out and includes an interview with Mr. Hitchcock's daughter Patricia, a wonderful profile of Edith Head-The Paramount Years, and the making of To Catch a Thief.
