   Summary: Awesome performance!
I had the privilege of seeing Mr. Stewart perform this live in New York City several years ago. It was an amazing experience - I walked out of there absolutely convinced that there were at least 40 people on stage with him even though he was alone. This recorded version is wonderful because you have the magic of his voice which is all you really need. Put this on, have some egg nog and decorate the tree!

   Summary: Jean-Luc does Dickens
My family has listened to this recording every year since we bought it in 1998. My kids grew up with it, know most of it by heart and don't consider it Christmas unless they've heard it. Patrick Stewart is incredible as he performs the voices of all the characters, plus many of the sound effects. If you hear this recording and are not enthralled by it, I would have to question your sense of wonder or your appreciation for a magnificent performance and an enchanting story. Beautiful!

   Summary: ...god bless us all...everyone...
this is one of my favorite audiobooks...this is one of my favorite cds...this IS my favorite broadway play i have ever seen...Patrick Stewart is outstanding as, well, every character within the walls of this brilliant masterpiece by dickens...and, if you had the amazing opportunity to ever see him perform it live, then you truly appreciate what you hear all the more...he was on stage, alone, no costumes or special effects, just a little wooden chair and a little wooden table...nothing more...he didn't need it...from the carollers singing to the clock ringing...'ga-doyng'...'ga-doyng'...he did it all..it's a masterpiece in itself, and, as long as this re-issue doesn't vary too much from the original audiobook release, (which is the one i have), then you too shall have a very merry christmas...

   Summary: A Fanstastic Performance!
I've seen Patrick Stewart perform "A Christmas Carol" live three times over the years in NYC. His one-man performance is one of the most entertaining evenings I've ever spent in a theater. I'm so happy this version of that performance has been released. Although you won't see him enhabiting all the characters (included the cooked Christmas goose) as you do when watching him perform, you will get the next best thing...hearing his amazing performance. It's too bad this is an abridged version, but it's still great...and, to me, MUCH better than the movie version Patrick Stewart made of the same story. In that version he only plays Scrooge. It's nothing like this one-man performance. I'm sure you'll marvel at what he's able to do all by himself as I did! Merry Christmas!

Summary: Even Scrooge Likes This Story
"Every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips, should be boiled with his
own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart!"

Next to the birth of Jesus, this has to be the most popular Christmas story. It has been adapted into so many variations (my favorite is "Mickey's Christmas Carol."). However, the story still remains fresh and a pleasure to read.

A short novel, this is still classic Dickens. His characters have depth and even insignificant characters are given a human quality. Of course, the curmudgeon Scrooge and his transformation is the focus of the novel, and Dickens delivers an enthralling, somewhat eerie story as the wraiths (spirits) of Christmas attempt to instill a human warmth in Scrooge's cold heart.

There is nothing new or earth-shattering in the novel. Almost all the adaptations have more or less adapted the text of Dickens novel. There are a few extra places and people that are visited that don't appear the movie adaptations. However, overall it is the same story that you know and love, and a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.
