   Summary: Just Amazing!!!
This is an amazing album, not as great as "the phantom agony", but I like the direction that the band has taken. The growls are excellent and gives Epica what they want, to stay away from the commercial bands and pseudo gothic bands like evanescence. Mark Jansen said this is the path Epica will follow no matter if people like it or not, for me its ok because the growls mixed with Simone's voice makes the music faraway from evanescence music style that is becoming more and more popular and boring.

Summary: Their band name suites their music!
I went on the nuclear blast website to watch the new Nightwish video, and the video for "Never Enough" came on, and I fell in love with this band. This album, in my opinion, is the epitomy of symphonic metal! With Simone's perfect voice, balancing Mark Jansen's growls, and mesmerizing choir/orchestra/lyrics really shows the band's potential. It's so hard to pick a favorite track, since they branch out the intensity on each one, but I would say my favorite is "Chasing the Dragon." I recommend this for anyone who loves Nightwish, Kamelot, Symphony X and After Forever. This album is something you don't want to miss out on!

Summary: Symphonic Metal at it's best
All the people complaining about the 'death grunts' and 'noise' of this album ARE NOT TRUE METAL FANS. This is an amazing album and if you consider yourself a metalhead, you cannot go wrong with this album. This album was my introduction to Epica. I have listened to past albums and cannot help but be a little dissapointed. I am absolutely in LOVE with this album. The vocals and music couldn't be more perfect. What an amazing experience. I cannot wait to see them in concert at the end of January!!

   Summary: Almost Awesome
Epica tries so hard to be Nightwish and they almost succeed. They have wonderful instruments and an opera lead singer who sends chills up my spine. Then this heavy idiot starts growling into the microphone and my ears start to bleed. 5 stars when the growling demon is silent. 3 stars when he is not.

Summary: Terrific music until the grunts ruin it
I totally agree with the earlier reviewer - musically Epica is wonderful, the music is epic metal and sheer brilliance, with Simone's vocals never been better. But the moment those grunts come in, the whole album is ripped off of my player and tossed into the amazon marketplace. It's a matter of taste, I understand, but I find nothing musical, interesting, or in any way palatable about listening to someone gargling to the music. If I wanted to hear singing Uruk'hai I'd watch the LOTR outtakes. But to my way of thinking (and listening) the grunts/roars/growls ruin a fantastic album. Too bad bands like this can't make two versions - one with the growls for those who are into them, and one without so that the rest of us can really get into the epic symphonic rock and won't miss out on what bands like this are doing. But for my money, I'll stick with the female-fronted bands that don't insist on injecting the growls into their work.
