   Summary: Dragon Naturally Speaking review
Couldn't install. Windows XP; met all memory requirements. Got error message repeatedly: "A serious problem occurred while trying to initialize the speech engine. Please try reinstalling..." Complied four times to no avail. 'Catch 22' situation. Gave up in frustration.

Summary: it has some bugs wait for them to release a service pack.
I have been using this product since it was first released. It was extremely hard for me to install on my desktop but I did not have an issue with the install on my work related laptop. It does not interface well with Microsoft Outlook 2003 exchange server. The natural language commands really take over the program and I have tried to turn them off in the options menu and even with them unchecked they still take over the program. I would buy version 9.5 for the time being it was less buggy and I actually think it was a little more accurate.

Summary: New user - works great
I picked up a copy of V10 (standard edition) solely because it was on sale for 49.95 and I wanted to play with voice recognition. Installation (on an XP home machine) went flawlessly, however I must say the the archaicic registration process and the inability after the first day or so without registering, would keep me from buying another different Nuance product. The Quick Start guide did not follow the installation process exactly but worked out OK using the advice provided in the guide to initially accept the default options.

With 10 minutes of initial training then running several of the tutorial examples I was up and running with very little trouble. Out of about 800 words in my first document only about 6 were wrong. Being able bodied I just use the mouse and keyboard to correct the few mistakes in recognition.

I feel that the user interface is well though out and works quite well.

Five Stars

Summary: Online Educators and Students: Try This!
I purchased this software two weeks ago and it has saved me TIME. Unlike other users I have not had any installation problems. I've never used speech recognition software before. Based on my experience I think it is valuable to complete the tutorial that is part of the software package. I rarely have to correct an entry. I'm still learning some of the commands that are part of this software otherwise I enjoy it. I'm using it in my school work, as an online educator to generate feedback, composing messages (including this entry), etc... I've already recommended it to several of my peers. With a little patience this is well worth the effort.

Summary: Maybe my expectations were unrealistic?
I find that I must spend a LOT more time setting this up than I had planned. I am not entirely sure that it can do what I wanted, but I need to poke around a bit more to be sure. So far, it is great for narrative-type dictation. What I had hoped to do, though, is dictate contact lists. Spelling out African names has proven near impossible. Trying to change formatting while in dictation mode is frustrating. Despite all of this, I am not going to give up on it yet. It just may end up being not as useful as I'd hoped.
