 Written on September 11, 2007 Summary: My favourite I love buying magazines on interior design and architecture. I may not be trained in it or even working in an industry that is related, but I just love reading about it. Dwell is by far my favourite choice. The features are beautiful and practical unlike some magazines where you look at them and say "wow, that is pretty- but i would not want to live there".  Written on July 19, 2007 Summary: Good for ideas, but not for afforable furniture Don't get me wrong, I like Dwell. I think the magazine has a lot of great content, but the problem is that most of the time the stuff presented is super expensive. I suggest using it for ideas, emulating them with your own creativity. :) Written on June 2, 2007 Summary: My Favorite Design Magazine "Dwell" is my favorite of all the design magazines I read regularly. It is a beautiful magazine with thoughtful and helpful illustrations, great articles, and interesting features. I am especially fond of the coverage of emerging trends in contemporary homes, particularly the coverage of prefab homes, culminating in the sponsorship of the "Dwell Homes," which showcase outstanding contemporary prefabricated housing. The advertisements are consistently relevant and interesting, and the magazine is good at keeping its edge with articles about relevant home furnishings, appliances, and other items that are frequently overlooked in other design magazines. I love the "Modern Market" section in the back of the magazine, dealing with unique products that are well targeted to the fan of the contemporary aesthetic. My only minor complaint is the occasional political agenda that appears in the articles, but it is relatively infrequent and confined to only a few (of a large number) of the contributors, like Pagan Kennedy. In general, though, the articles stay on topic and the editorial content is relevant and appropriately focused. I look forward to getting several design magazines every month, but can honestly say that "Dwell" is my favorite of the bunch. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in contemporary architecture or design.  Written on March 13, 2007 Summary: Shockingly bad customer service I have had nothing but trouble with my Dwell subscription: June 2006 - Missed issue. I contacted customer service by email, they took several days, and I do mean several days to return my email. The problem was finally resolved with a telephone call on my behalf - they extended my subscription by 2 issues. However, the replacement magazine did not come and I had to telephone them again. They said on the telephone that it would take 4-6 weeks to get my replacement magazine. They were correct. January 2007 - I received several renewal notices from Dwell, though my subscription does not expire until October 2007! I emailed customer service (again), and after several days they replied to my email and assured me my subscription does not expire until October 2007, and that they send customers renewal notices early, 9 months early in fact, so that customers have time to renew. Customer service should not make excuses for their shortcomings. March 2007 - I did not receive the March 2007 issue and April is already on the news stand. 2 missed issues in the past 6 months. Frustrated. I just emailed customer service and received the auto-reply of "...Your message has been submitted to a customer service representative who will respond to you within two business days .. " I hope it really is only two days. Update: No email response yet on the above. Will have to telephone them again. Four times since June. Shockingly horrible customer service. Though it used to be one of my favorite magazines and I really want to continue liking it. However, I cannot bring myself to do it. I now feel ill when I see the magazine - knowing that I have received minimal value for my money. I will not be renewing my subscription, and am seriously considering canceling it now. I therefore cannot and will not recommend this magazine to anyone due to lack of customer care. FYI: I ordered this magazine directly from Dwell and not from Amazon. Written on February 8, 2007 Summary: Great Magazine If you like a modern view of architecture and living in general, this is it. The articles are well written and interesting. The ads tend to go for the high end market, but are interesting. Well worth the $. |
