Written on December 1, 2008 Summary: Action-filled and entertaining- slight spoilers Pretty much everything is established when this book begins. We know exactly who and what the characters are, what they mean to each other, etc. You would think it might be a bit repetetive, but for the most part, it's not. You know Bella loves Edward and wouldn't even dream of anyone else, but it was nice to read of the Jacob/Edward rivalry. I do get a sense that they love her both, dearly, in their own way. And I did feel bad for Jacob throughout the book, knowing, without a doubt, that Bella was always going to choose Edward. I don't want to say she is 'blinded by love' or anything of the sort, but even if Edward bodily harmed her for whatever reason, she would still probably choose him over anyone in the world. There is a bit more action in this book as well. It is balanced quite nicely with some humour and romance as well as some much needed drama. Though this book, and its predecessors are geared more towards teenagers, at 25, I thoroughly enjoyed them as well, perhaps because I love the vampire genre and it was a nice little retreat. The book(s) are a quick read, nothing compared to reading the brilliant Anne Rice of course. If you want your vampires realistic, stylish and in character- read Anne Rice- there is no one that can do vampires like she can. But if you want to read a fun, quick engaging novel, then the Twilight series are perfect for that. Eclipse is probably my second favorite in the series after New Moon, and even the writing has improved with each new book. I really think it will appeal to many readers, not just the tweens. Written on November 30, 2008 Summary: Quite an Adventure Stephenie Meyer made a great recovery by writing this novel. In my opinion she saved twilight series just before they crashed and burned. New Moon was absolutely terrible. It was boring and extremely depressing, while Eclipse was much much better. It carried that fire and passion Twilight had, and made you keep wanting more. For those of you who are down about New Moon, please don't give up on the series because of it, Meyer makes up for it in this amazing novel. Written on November 28, 2008 Summary: Tweens and Teens deserve better! I cannot believe the hype surrounding this series of books. I had high hopes, which were dashed primarily by the fact that SM used the same 10 adjectives repeatedly to describe each of her central characters. I love this genre and am so disappointed. The fourth book was the worst of the bunch. Anyone with recommendations for a suitable replacement for Harry Potter, please let me know! |
