 Written on January 10, 2007 Summary: Great Monitor I looked at several widescreen monitors, HP, Envision, Samsung, and Dell. This Gateway shames them all - the color is extremely vivid and bright. It makes my Dell 1905FP look mediocre now. I use the Gateway as my primary monitor, and the Dell as the secondary, both on DVI connections. There is a small about of back light on a solid black screen, but that is no issue to me. This is an exceptional monitor!! Written on January 4, 2007 Summary: Great monitor - 1 major flaw This is an amazing monitor. It has a clear picture, bright screen, and great controls. It also has tons of great options such as a usb hub and inputs for DVI, VGA, and some home theater hookups. The only major problem is with the backlight bleed. There are two bright casts on the top and bottom that are only viewable when watching a movie or playing a dark game that interfere with your view. Its a great monitor but i'm personally going to take it back until they can release a product that has does a better job keeping the backlight bleed down. Written on December 19, 2006 Summary: Way better than the Samsung. This is a great monitor and I would recommend it to anyone. I recently purchased this and the picture is great. I tried out every aspect of this monitor including movies, games, and basic computer use. The extra USB connections are an amazing addition. I do not notice any light bleeding. The High Definition Dvd's looked more than exceptional and the speed of the monitor easily handled xbox 360's graphics and gaming. Overall, I would recommend this monitor to anyone. Written on December 12, 2006 Summary: Wanted to like it - bad backlight bleed I really wanted to like this monitor. It is solidly built and has great features like the USB ports and multiple inputs. That said, I found the backlight bleed on the top and bottom of the screen to be unbearable. It was not all that noticable for most applications, like running a MS Office or browsing the internet, but when playing a game or watching a DVD, it was really prominent. When running a DVD player into the component inputs, the monitor adds black bands to compensate for the widescreen image. The bleed was so strong as to be a real distraction from the DVD. Also, when playing games the have a lot of darkness (e.g. Unreal Tournament) the bleed was again very distracting. If it weren't for the bleed I would still own this monitor. Since I want a monitor for watching DVDs as well as to use with my computer, I returned it.  Written on December 9, 2006 Summary: Pretty darn good; excellent for the money I have a Sony LCD 18" that I love. It sold me on LCDs. So I had high expectations when I unpacked the Gateway. After a couple of days I can say, thumbs up. The contrast, color and speed on this unit are all what you'd expect from a pricier monitor. Text, photos (once you dial it in) and games all look great. This inexpensive unit has only one flaw that I can find: light bleed at the top and bottom of the screen, noticible only when the screen is dark, like for movies. OK the viewing angle isn't the greatest, either. With these caveats in mind, I recommend this monitor to you. |
