Written on October 19, 2008 Summary: Works good, and will power CFL I'm not an electrician by any means but was only replacing a single pole switch. I had to do some research and basically stumbled on the fact that most of these types won't work with CFL bulbs, which we use on our porch lights and was the use for this purchase. In reading the directions, for novices like myself, it wasn't real clear about connecting not using the white wires (I think common), only the black ones (I think hot). Also, although I'm an IT professional and so am used to programming, the small display and somewhat unusual approach took a few tries to get reliably speedy at it. Once one goes through it though all is well. This is why the 4 star rating only.  Written on September 30, 2008 Summary: Work's like a Charm!! I have just had a swimming pool installed, and needed a timer to run the pump. Instead of putting in one of the large gray box style, I happened on this one which fits right in the same box as the original switch. One word of caution the switch is rather deep, so make sure you have an extention ring, or not many wiring connections in the same box. The pump is 240vac and the switch has no problem. The buttons are a little small for large fingers, and you'll need the instructions with you to program it. Even the pool contractor thought it was a great idea and may start offering them to new customers.  Written on September 23, 2008 Summary: Can anybody program this thing? I read the reviews but figured - how hard could it be? I still haven't figured it out, may be this weekend's project. Written on September 6, 2008 Summary: Works great with my CFL bulbs I recently put CFL bulbs in my outdoor lights to save energy. Long ago, I had replaced my inside light switch with a dusk to dawn timer switch, but it made the new CFL bulbs flicker all night long and was harsh on the eyes. The first bulb burned out after just a few weeks. I replaced the timer switch with this new one, and have had no more problems. The new timer works great, and the lights no longer flicker. Thanks for providing a great product at a great price! Written on September 6, 2008 Summary: Excellent! Bought this to replace a similar Radio Shack timer I've had for a decade that finally gave up the ghost. It has a lower profile than my old one. It's easy to set up and more importantly, I won't need to keep adjusting for the sunset or DST. |
