 Written on November 8, 2008 Summary: Great purchase Iomega Prestige 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34270 I was having problems with the I/O Magic 250gb External HD I bought early last year and decided on a new external. I came across the info on the Iomega and went for it after reading a few of the reviews, I'm glad I did. I ordered it thru Amazon-Free Shipping and figured it'd be a while before I got it. I received it 4 days after ordering and was very happy with the transfer of the old files to the new HD. Installation was quick, there were no transfer files included, which was great, I hate to reformat an external, takes too long. I've still got over 100gb of space left and will probably order another. The Iomega uses less space than the second External I bought, which was a My Books and I love the on/off switch the Iomega has. Great product, don't know how long it will last, but so far, I'm happy with my purchase. Written on November 7, 2008 Summary: Great drive for the $$$$$ This drive was the cheapest drive with high ratings when I bought it and it certainly has lived up to my expectations. Solid, quiet, fast... perhaps a bit larger than some, but still a very good buy. I haven't used the backup software so I can't address any concerns there. I'm working with large photo files and backing them up as I go. Written on November 6, 2008 Summary: Just got it Just got this, was very easy to install. Intuitive to use, I am using it mostly for pictures and documents to free up space on my hard drive, is nice that I can plug into one of our laptops and then they can look at all our pics too. The on/off switch is perfect and I hope will make it last a long time. That is why I chose this one. Written on November 5, 2008 Summary: Beware of format This works well, no complaints there. However, it comes in the NTFS format. Hence, if u want this to be used on a PS3 or with a linux OS you will have to re-format this HDD to FAT32. Note that you will have to get a program such as partition magic to do this as windows OS does not allow you to re-format anything more than 32 gigs. Also, this hard drive supports a maximum of 5 partitions. Written on November 4, 2008 Summary: So far so good Easy to use. Bought it to back up my music so I can box up all my CD's, and it works great so far. Doesn't get too warm, not too loud. Kinda heavy, but I like that - seems more sturdy, and perhaps the added mass helps dissipate heat. |
