| Singer-songwriter Jonathan Edwards released this charming debut record in 1971. The album gained some mainstream attention thanks to the catchy political-pop single "Sunshine." Featuring rustic, acoustic-based ballads, and up-tempo numbers like "Train of Glory," Edwards's warm, gentle voice was surrounded by a group of empathic musicians collectively known as Orphan. Edwards sang his homespun tunes in a casual, easy manner, while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar and harmonica. The emotional centerpiece on this album is "Sometimes," a touching ode to the early-morning memories of a love long gone. A convincing vocalist armed with a batch of heartfelt compositions, Jonathan Edwards typified the young, folkie troubadours that were popular in the early '70s.  Written on January 12, 2007 Summary: bought for one song & liked the album Sunshine-his big hit, of course. Some nice folk music and a little country. I'm not big on country, but the rest of the album is a nice retreat. I think his music has fallen into obscurity. Written on April 12, 2005 Summary: rare talent For those of you who have never had the pleasure of seeing Jonathan Edwards in concert or hearing his recordings, you owe it to yourself to do so. I had the opportunity to see him several times while in college(1970's) and can still vividly remember his fantastic concerts. All of his recordings are a treat and highlight his true musical talent. I was happy to see that "Lucky Day" will soon be released on CD. Buy all of his CD's! You won't be dissappointed. Also, for more Jonathan Edwards, check out Cheryl Wheeler's discs. Absolutely listen to the song "Behind The Barn" from the same titled album. Written on July 23, 2004 Summary: this album is one of the best Jonathan Edwards is an unsung hero.His music is so full of flavor and life.A radio station in my area used to have what they call "desert island tapes"--if you were stranded on a desert island and you had three peices of music allowed for an indefinite amount of time--what would you pick? This would be one pick of mine.Its that good.It is soothing,heartfelt and even funny.I have never met anyone who didnt like this album after being turned on to it.Jonathan has a voice of gold and the music is terrific.The only thing i would say is buy it!---you will not regret it. Written on March 19, 2004 Summary: Lucky Day There is an album titled "Lucky Day" by Jonathan Edwards which includes most or all of the songs on this album but are live versions. Lucky Day was the first Jonathan Edwards album I bought so I enjoy these live versions much better. The tempo is faster and Jonathan adds his embelishments within songs. I would like to see some recording company reproduce Lucky Day on CD. Jonathan Edwards fans that haven't heard it will enjoy ~~~ Written on March 16, 2004 Summary: A Great Great Great CD I Came Upon at a Friends House I was recently at my aunt's house in NY and we stopped over to her boyfriends house to feed all of his animals and I was looking through his collection of CDs and came upon this CD by Jonathan Edwards and curiously, I asked my aunt about it. She told me that is was a very good album that I would enjoy very much. So I put it on and instantly I was amazed. The guitar and the harmonica are great, but his voice is so UNBELIEVABLE! I can't believe what a great CD it is. All folk, blues and classic rock fans so own this CD! It is just simply amazing! |
