| Is Kid Rock about to drop the first half of his stage moniker? Some alarmingly mature cuts on his sixth album, addressing the woes of single parenthood ("Single Dad") and painful separations ("Cold and Empty," a cover of Bob Seger's "Hard Night For Sarah"), might suggest so. But that's only part of the story. As Rock reiterates on "Son of Detroit," a butt-kicking revamp of David Allan Coe's "Son of the South," "I like country, soul, rock and roll, and I love me some hip-hop." Yet compared to his previous work, that last flavor takes a back seat to the other three: Hank Williams, Jr. drops by for the swaggering "Cadillac Pussy," Bad Company's "Feel Like Makin' Love" gets a gritty nu-metal update, and ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd receive shout outs. Have no fear, fans--even as he reconciles having a child with acting like one, the Kid still lives to rock. --Kurt B. Reighley |

 Written on November 24, 2007 Summary: Love some of it. I like some of this cd and wish that Kid Rock would sell his music by the song sometimes. I don't alway care for some of his rap music. Written on November 19, 2007 Summary: Please don't front on the Kid Anyone writing a review of Kid Rock should understand his art at a basic level. To compare him to most other artists is to completely miss the point of his music. It's like comparing Evil Dead to Night of the Living Dead, or worse, Gone with the Wind. To start with, you must accept the Kid on his own terms. Try to understand first of all, that he's trying to create a cartoonish world, playing off of the cliches of hypermasculinity, the windblown life on the road, and the joys of drugs and loose women. Further, he creates a persona of jaw-droppingly egotistical and maniacally self-involved proportions. The results are very funny....not because they are bad necessarily....not like "Full House" funny....but rather because they take the cliches and revel shamelessly in them, glory unrepentantly in poor taste, amplifying it until it becomes an artform in and of itself. Cartoonish, and who doesn't like cartoons? Cartoons make us feel good, entertain us, and make us laugh. They are well crafted and, sometimes, even become classics. That, ladies and gentlemen, is Kid Rock in a nutshell. A well-crafted, unselfconscious, uniquely American cartoon. Only three stars because this one is less cartoonish and thus less enjoyable.  Written on November 11, 2006 Summary: What a great album in general..forget that it's kid rock Ok we all know Kid Rock got big by Devil. This album isn't the traditional radio anything. It's just solid music. Kid had always been rocky but this album proves he's a true talent. He bridges gaps. For example, my father is a cash/willie/hag country type fan. Sure he loves his Bruce but that's as far as he's gone. When I was 21 playing devil he wasn't impressed. After I got this album it for him and said trust me, you will like it. He loved it. Now he plays it all the time. Rock is an inovator. When I play a tune like "I am" most friends ask who it is. They don't even know it's kid rock. They liked his older radio stuff, an like this but didn't even know it's him (casual music listeners). Now if that's not talant I don't know what is!!! I can't WAIT for his next! Favorite tune is track 14 Go back to LA wonder what Pam thinks of this song now that they are married!
