| This live album documents a love affair, one between a singer-songwriter who attracted a whole new following with the release of 2002’s 1000 Kisses and the devoted fans who flocked to her subsequent tour. The rapturous response at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, long the hallowed home of the Grand Ole Opry, makes it plain that Griffin is among friends for this concert recording, with kindred spirits Emmylou Harris and Julie and Buddy Miller joining her onstage to lend vocal support. Despite the setting, Griffin’s music resists categorization as country (or folk or rock), with acoustic guitar, accordion, and piano providing exquisite settings for her expressively edgy vocals on a range of striking material--from the suicide of a tormented gay boy in "Tony" to the plight of an unhappy heiress in "Christina" (which Griffin explains to the crowd came to her in a dream about Christina Onassis) to the hint of ragtime in "Mad Mission." A bonus DVD of backstage scenes and videos completes the package, which lets fans feel they’ve gotten to know not only the music, but the artist. -- Don McLeese |

Written on January 8, 2004 Summary: She touches your soul I've been a fan of patties for a couple years and have all her CD's. I looked at the song list on A Kiss in Time and since I allready had all the songs except 10 million miles I wasn't sure it offered anything new. I gave in and went ahead a bought it. This cd BLEW ME AWAY. It has instantly become my favorite. Patty live is otherworldly and this CD takes you to the front row. Christina, Peter Pan, and Mary are my favorites w/ all the others close behind. What an amazing talent is this woman. It has given new light to old songs and made me weep again. If you want the best that has been recorded then buy this CD. Written on December 27, 2003 Summary: Another Hit I've seen Patty at both ACL fest performances....she is incrediable! She's a great inspiration to young girls like me. (I've done a few covers) I love her intamacy live or recorded. Once again, Julie Miller and Emmylou Harris provide great backups. 10 Million Miles is an easy to play relaxing song. I always enjoy her fabulous songwriting. I love the emotion she always puts into her songs. I can't wait for hernew album to come out. I heard Icicles Falling and it sounds like the new album is gonna be great.....like always! Kudos Patty! Written on December 20, 2003 Summary: The Red Headed Wonder Strikes !!! Everyone's favorite sassy red head from Suddenly Susan is back with another great collection of songs!!! I say, Brooke Shields who?! Written on December 3, 2003 Summary: Absolutely brilliant It's been quite awhile since I've heard anything that turned me on as much as this CD. Patty Griffin has always been a fine songwriter and indeed I've enjoyed her CDs, but this, this is a step beyond that. Here she gathered some of the finest musicians imaginable and took off on a tour, doing her music the way she wanted to do it. And the final concert, this one, in Nashville, at the old Ryman, is one of those magical occasions in music, where everything goes better than it has a right to. She's just perfect here! It's as if she had one really really really great performance in her, and boy, did she ever give it right here, for all of us to hear. I am just enthralled with the beauty of this performance. Even if you just kinda, sorta like her - grab this CD. I promise you, you'll end up loving Patty Griffin as much as I do! And that's a lot! Written on November 25, 2003 Summary: Patty is magic I love this cd!! I was anticpating this one for a good month or two and then they pushed the release date back, I was so upset. Patty's talent really shines through on this. It has all my favorites, namely 'Nobody's Cryin'', 'Peter Pan', 'Goodbye', and 'Rain'. I didn't know the story behind 'Christina' till I heard this cd..Patty explains it breifly before she sings it. Patty's passion really shines through and is the highlight of this cd. There is something about good live music that all the productions instruments in the world can not reproduce. A must have for Patty fans and a great introduction for new fans!! |
