 Written on November 8, 2007 Summary: Eye on You I bought this for my grandchildren in Utah. I miss them very much. We instant message each other as often as we can. It is such a thrill to see them as well as hear about their day. Being far away from loved ones is hard, but this Quickcam is the greatest and I am very pleased with the performance and ease of installation. Well worth the money. Written on November 8, 2007 Summary: Very good Picture I like my webcam . It has automatic focus when daylight or night - no problem when it`s all dark in my room. Even if you move a lot it has a special function that it will follow your face on a conversation. Microphone is OK. I give it 4 stars because when I finally installed my webcam and turned off my computer and later turned it on ,had to plug it in another usb slot for a correct operation. After that had no problems. Written on October 31, 2007 Summary: great webcam for the price My Wife and I moved about 800 miles from our grown Kids. We gave them each this webcam as gifts. The webcam was easy to install and works great on Yahoo Messenger. The only snag was that you have to change the resolution to the lowest setting to use it on a live call. Therefore, the webcam's capabilities far exceed that of "free" services on the web. Sound and face tracking were excellent.  Written on October 30, 2007 Summary: Bad drivers make this webcam a bad product The hardware aspect of this webcam is impeccable. The image and the sound quality are very good. What is spoiling the package is the bad quality software bundled with this webcam that can bring Windows to become unstable. Casual computer users might never encounter the problem if they just open few programs. For the problem to occur, you have to spawn many processes. Examples of such activities are execution of batch files or using cygwin. The symptom of an unstable system is a dialog box with the following message every time that you start a new program: Dwwin.exe: The instruction '0x7c883f9c' referenced memory at '0x7c883f9c'. The memory could not be 'written'. When that happens, the only thing you can do is reboot your PC. I have been months living with this problem without knowing what was causing it. For this reason, I am very unhappy with this product and I strongly discourage anyone to purchase a Logitech webcam as I think that almost, if not all, Logitech webcams are bundled with the same drivers. After this warning, if you still consider purchasing a Logitech webcam, I can tell you that there is a work around. You can turn off the Logitech Process Monitor. To do so, you go in the services panel that you can find in the 'Administrative tools' menu, find the Logitech service and stop it and set its startup type to manual to be sure that it will never run again on your system.  Written on October 24, 2007 Summary: Poor install software Installed the camera and my sound was disabled from my entire computer. No help on their site. Google returned similar problems with convoluted solutions. To fix, I had to uninstall my Audio drivers and reboot. Really pisses me off when relatively insignificant software messes with my system. I thought Vista would prevent this type of thing. Apparently not! |
