 Written on August 10, 2005 Summary: So different from the crap on the radio When I first listened to this album, I thought it was kind of eerie. Emiliana has a different voice from the sea of people out in the spotlight these days. And her songs are filled with different, almost random subjects. It turns out that these are two of the reasons I love it so. Once in a while we need to clear our brains of the sugar on the radio and this album will help to do so. Enthusiastic thumbs up and singing it loudly in the car!  Written on August 9, 2005 Summary: Great sounds...great voice...banal lyrics! I agree with the reviewer "Hameed..."'s comment that the lyrics definately have a sort of corny "pop" feel to them, that some teenager could've wrote. This really isn't for me, maybe for others it is. But I was led to this album as a recommendation for fans of Ms. Goldfrapp by Amazon.com, which I think is misleading! I only like the 1st track (a little bit), then the rest of the stuff is...hmm.  Written on August 4, 2005 Summary: (Not) Good Beautiful voice, and very skilled vocals; but what a pity that lyrics are just slightly above alternative teenage-pop, she could do better, i'll definitely go for her next CD, hoping it will be better in lyrics. Written on July 14, 2005 Summary: Weird and wonderful pop Love In The Time Of Science is intriguing, delightfully twisted electro-pop by way of Iceland, and has all the elements of a good thriller - captivating, unsettling and with plenty of melodic twists and turns. Inevitably, Emiliana Torrini is compared with Bjork due to the similarity in sound and shared heritage, but whereas Bjork is a strikingly innovative artist who can be frustrating to listen to at times, listening to Torrini never feels like a chore. Torrini's eerie, possessed vocals are put to good use, particularly in the first half of Love In The Time Of Science with the mesmerizing 'Baby Blue' and spectral 'Dead Things' being as dark and beautiful as an Icelandic winter. Sitting, listening to it today, this album mightn't sound as revelatory as when it was first released in 1999, but Love In The Time Of Science and Torrini herself, remain a strong and unique presence in the music world. Written on June 15, 2005 Summary: incredible novelty; not better than BJORK This C.D. is incredible. You'll fall in love with it on the first listen, it's that hauntingly beautiful--But I wouldn't go so far as to say Emiliana is, by any means, better than Bjork. Bjork basically invented this twisted music genre and still reigns supreme. Torrini's most recent release sounds nothing like "Love In The Time Of Science" It's unfortunate, but true. Anyway, it's a great buy and one of my favorite c.d's in my collection. If you like it I also recommend Esthero's "Breathe From Another" album or Bjork's "Greatest Hits" |
