Summary: Perfect for beginners.. I have loved this software since the day I got it! And I have dozens of other and MORE powerful software's. But I always go to this one first, to do the cropping and cloning, and using the histogram...and the other adjustment tools. Then I take it to another program to put the final touches to it. But you can use this for everything if you wish to do that. But I can not recommend this enough to those who want an all in one..easy program to start with. It does have many powerful tools..and I don't think you will be disappointed, especially if you are a beginner to the editing part of digital photography. Simply, out of all of my dozens of software programs....I love this one the best!..... Summary: Just what I thought This is exactly what I wanted to buy and I am using it a lot. Summary: Considering a Photo Editor? First of all let me say i am using a Dell desktop with a 3G or so processor, and 1G RAM. currently I am using a Canon EOS 10d SLR and i shooot in large JPEG or RAW. i have used just about every Digital Image Pro program as my main editing software since the first time i used "Picture It" 5 years ago. (I also own a copy of Photoshop 7 with several books and reference guides and it is still too complicated for me) I take about 1500-2000 shots a month and have had no problems with program crashing or computer freezing. Was using an IBM thinkpad with a 2.4G processor w/ 512RAM, Program worked slow, so i upgraded to 1G RAM and that was the answer. Great art in not just oil, it is brushes, canvasses, frames, perspectives, presentation, luck and many other things that create what is interesting. Pro 10 it would seem is a nice fit in a moderate picture making hobby. not neccessarily pro level, but plenty adequate for hobbyist and beginners. I actually have sold prints so yes it could work for low level photogs and someone trying to break in the business. Originally i liked how this software cropped, sharpened, cloned, and set picture sizes for printing. also, before my current camera i started out with a 2 megapixel Sony camera. As the files became bigger so did the need for Processing, RAM, and storage. Early on i was impressed with the kinds of things i could create with pictures. Fast forward to today. And i currently use Microsft Digital Image Pro 10 excluseivly for all my photo editing. The more i use it the faster it starts and the faster it perfoms. An important note: the upgrade from Pro 7 to Pro 10 does not require an overwrite of the Pro 7, Therefore I keep both programs readily available for use. Why? the mannually adjusting Sharpness feature and the circular crop feature. Pro 10 doesnt carry these features like Pro 7. If you can find a copy of Pro7, it might be worth your time to buy it and install it, Pro 7 comes in handy alot for me. The program is easy to figure out and easy to use. True it has dropped quality in some areas over the previous versions such as Sharpness Correction(a manual adjustment would be nice)and Red Eye reduction with the adjustable black blob in the center of the eye controller(kinda ineffective)(And another job for Pro 7). other than these few points I have had no problems with the software. It does almost everything i need it to at a high level of satisfaction. As I have become a better photog, i have learned not to shoot these kinds of shots that create Red Eye. I bought a nice Flash and am about to buy some lighting kits and backdrops. Regarding the sharpness issue, i simply use my cameras settings to increase sharpness initially so as not to rely on the software. Really, the software can only do so much anyway. The pic has to be relatively clean inside the camera to become an exceptional photo post editing. Otherwise, i just use the extensive filter collection to create a different perpective for a poor photo. Have never used the slideshow features from Pro 10. But I do use Photo Story 3 from the Microsoft website, also I upgraded to Mydvd for pans and zooms. Mydvd is the best i have found(at a decent price) for clear televisable slidshows, even better with pans, zooms, and music. The best part is the price, reluctantly i shed myself of $99.00 to buy this program and waited for a $40.00 rebate. But during and after my buying process, i knew this program would be worth the money. And it has been. IT REALLY CAN WORK MAGIC! Summary: Dissapointed! Do not wast your money. You can do almost everything with the standard XP Profissional that you can with this looser. Sorting within files is almost impossable, defalt settings dictates assending or decending orders, regardless of your pictures folders arrangement. Mot worth the money! Summary: Work for smaller photos but not big This program is good for working with smaller size pictures (4 x 6 in). It's just working fine. No problem. However, once you work with large image, 10 x 8 in, it was so slow in my Pentium 4 PC (725MB RAM, 3 HD, regularly defragmented, WIndows XP Prof, and background programs turned off, see nothing from the Task Manager). Basically I have a canvas size 10 x 8 in, 300 dpi resolution with several JPG pictures (1-2 MB size each) in it. When you crop the JPG or work with magic wand, the program runs very sluggish. It made me frustrated to wait 60 seconds for each activity. Note that although I have to wait for a while, the result (print out) of the images are very good and super. It's just the waiting time is very annoying. |
