 Written on January 8, 2008 Summary: Very disappointed I received this camera as a gift. I was highly disappointed when I had to return it because of poor image quality. The features available on this camera sounded fantastic, but I couldn't use them because 1 in 5 of my pictures was blury or out of focus. At 8 megapixels and a 5X optical zoom I should have had super clear pictures. I have owned 2 other Olympus cameras and have loved them, but I wanted something smaller. I was very disappointed to have to return this one. I exchanged it with a Canon Powershot and I love it! Written on January 5, 2008 Summary: Poor Image Quality - Very Disappointed with this camera I checked the posted reviews for this camera because it was becoming increasingly apparent that the image quality from my new 820 was poor. I wanted to see if others were finding the same thing. Reading the reviews by those customers who are getting poor quality images confirmed my suspicions. My observations have been identical with those in the reviews. It is possible to take good photographs with this camera, the only problem is that you never know when it is going to happen! Sometimes they are good and mostly they are bad. I get a better percentage of good ones outdoors but they aren't all good. Indoors, forget about it. The poor quality images are grainy and look like someone drew them with crayons. A lot of the fine detail is just washed out. The features, menus and large display are great, but the only reason for having a camera is to produce images. If they are lousy images, who cares about all the great features? What a disappointment this camera is. I purchased the camera for outdoor activities where the camera could, on rare occasions, get wet. I wasn't expecting to have to give up on image quality. If I had it to do over again, I would look at the Canon line of compact cameras because they always seem to take great pictures and the video mode produces .avi files which play on Windows Media Player. I looked at the Nikons and they all seem to produce .mov video files that require you to install Quicktime on your computer. If Canon could just make a water resistant, compact camera, I would buy it immediately. Written on January 2, 2008 Summary: Image quality issues I have experienced very poor quality images especially indoors with the Stylus 820. Grainy and washed out images with camera in auto modes. Called tech support and only advice was to do a reset and now I have passed my 2 week period to return it, as it was a Christmas gift. Do not buy this camera.  Written on December 28, 2007 Summary: Olympus stylus 820 I love this camerea, I have had the same brand before and it is wonderful and easy to use. Just remember to buy an Olympus xd card for it, it does not come wit the camera.  Written on December 28, 2007 Summary: olympus 820 camera Purchased this camera for Christmas. Powers up fast! View screen is bright, big and easy to read. Controls seem easy to understand. We have the Sony Cypershot and Canon ELF cameras also and the Olympus quickly became the family favorite with the Sony a close second. |
