 Written on October 30, 2001 Summary: Don Imus loves this guy ...and yet you never hear him sing about Jim Miklasewski of NBC News. Weird.  Written on July 18, 2001 Summary: A Genuine Classic... I have been a fan of Delbert's for about 20 years or so since discovering his releases in the late '70s and early '8os. On this CD Delbert (finally) could take the time to make the album that he has wanted to do for years. And did he ever! This may be the best release of 2001. There are no weak cuts, pure Delbert singing with excellent backup musicians. This is, simply stated, a superb CD. As it is so difficult to "classify" Delbert into one category, I would just say that if you like real good, fun music, which is exceptionally crafted, then purchase this CD. You can't not like this release. And contrary to one other reviewer, this is, in fact, a very highly personal CD. This is a keeper by one of the very best artists recording today. Buy it and enjoy! Written on June 13, 2001 Summary: Thank you Delbert If you're a Delbert fan like me, this may become your favorite CD. If you're unfamiliar with him, "You Gotta Get it Worked On" and this is a great introduction. The storyline and lyrics of "When Rita Leaves" are themselves worth the price of this CD. If you don't start moving to "You Gotta Get it Worked On" - check your pulse, you may be dead! "Birmingham Tonight" is a wistful, old fashioned love song - in the 'over-the-road truck driver missing my woman' tradition. "Squeeze Me In" is the sort of sexy, sassy, cut that'll make you think you just stepped into a crowded Texas roadhouse on Friday night. A great mix of Blues, Country, and honky tonk. Thank you Delbert. Written on May 10, 2001 Summary: Lotsa of Fun from Delbert. Nothing Personal is the latest in the feel good music of Delbert McClinton. It features the honky tonk, roadhouse, get up and dance music that Delbert has been recording for years. The best tracks are the up-tempo ones that are at the beginning of the CD. Delbert's vocals are not strong enough to do ballads, however, the songs are fun, toe-tapping affairs. I am always amazed that Delbert is so undiscovered. He is very adept at blending R&B and Country with a taste of honky tonk. This is a CD for fans of Delbert, who cannot wait for the latest dose. If you do not know Delbert, you should first try out I'm With You. Written on May 10, 2001 Summary: Delbert's best work yet! With this CD, Delbert McClinton proves that he can pen lyrics just as well as he can belt out the blues. So many cuts are destined to be classics: "When Rita Leaves," "Living it up," "Watching the Rain" ... great stuff. Truly, this is music, as they say in Gruene, "too good for the radio." |
