   Summary: Play Misty For Me
Great story, but, what every happened to the opening sequence? I'm dating myself, but, when I saw the movie in the theater when it was originally released, there was a longer opening. As Eastwood is driving down the road, he follows a girl on a bike and picks her up. If you notice in the dvd version, after he leaves work and is driving down the PCH, and then through town, you may notice a skip in time and landscape. That is where the girl on the bike sequence should be. I would like to find and buy the complete movie. I expect the bike and girl thing may not be PC enough for some critics and it was cut from the DVD.

Summary: Jessica Walter Delivers An Oscar-Winning Performance As The Stalker From Hell
"Play Misty For Me" was Clint Eastwood's directorial debut, and what a debut! This is a tense, powerful drama that is both suspenseful and horrifying. Clint Eastwood is a playboy disc jockey who is seduced by the fan from Hell, played by Jessica Walter. Walter should have received an Oscar for her portrayal as a psychotic who can't get over the fact that Eastwood never has and never will love her. The gorgeous Donna Mills (Surprise, she's not a bleached blonde in this movie!) plays Eastwood's naïve girlfriend who is convinced by Eastwood to revive a relationship with him. Big mistake!

Filmed in beautiful Carmel, California (Eastwood's home town), "Play Misty For Me" is an emotional roller coaster ride. It has many scenes between Eastwood and Walter that range from publicly embarrassing and humiliating to horrifying and tragic. Wait until Walter begins wielding a large kitchen knife and commences to slice and dice everyone in Eastwood's life. The ending was gruesome; it gave me a jolt. It definitely caught me by surprise as it did the victim.

"Fatal Attraction" has scenes that mimic "Play Misty For Me." It is not nearly as well done as the Eastwood hit. Glenn Close's character is not nearly as nasty as Jessica Walter's.

"Play Misty For Me." is highly recommended for fans of horror and suspense and for fans of American icon, Clint Eastwood. A higher body count would've been nicer, however, this movie relies more on suspense rather than gratuitous gore and violence. Some of the scenes at the jazz festival dragged too long. Overall, "Play Misty for me was a great find and it reminds me why I still like movies from the early seventies.

I received my first VHS tape titled Lady Beware within several days. It took a considerable length of time (10+ days)to receive the DVD titled Misty for me. Other than the time, I was happy with service.

Summary: Slasher Movie with a Romantic Triangle
The film opens with a view of the seacoast. Seals are on the beach. A lone man looks out to sea, then drives along the highway. Dave is a late night disc jockey. He gets a request to play a song. After work he stops at a near empty bar [?] and meets Evelyn. Is this a coincidence? The next day Evelyn drops in to cook for Dave. Does she have a temper? We see more of Dave's life through his conversations. His friends are 'artistes'. [Living on their trust inheritance?] Has Dave befriended the wrong person? Is an emotional Evelyn obsessed with Dave? Is the relationship out of control? Has Dave's life suddenly become too complicated? Its certainly not his fault. Is Evelyn self-destructive? Why is she so alone? Dave's treatment of Evelyn seems like an example of Pavlovian conditioning.

The film crawls along with dramatic intervals. Evelyn becomes more emotional and intrusive, disturbing Dave's business lunch. [Could she get professional help?] Soon Evelyn turns criminally violent. The police now have a case against Evelyn. Who is she? Dave knows nothing. Then he is back with his old girlfriend Tobie. There are shots of the Monterey Jazz Festival. [This pads out the film.] Evelyn says goodbye to Dave. Will she ever return? Will there be a shocking surprise at the end? Could someone who attacked a person be released so soon? Would a police officer expecting danger walk into the house unwary? The film finally ends when Evelyn leaves for good.

[This film would be better if edited for faster pacing. The value of this movie is in its symbolism about the danger of Dave's lifestyle.]

   Summary: Play Misty For Me...Anytime
Clint Eastwood's directorial debut is terrific! His eye for photography, location scouting and coaching make for a poignant and petrifying film.

Jessica Walters is eerily realistic as Dave Garver's (Clint Eastwood) number one fan and one-night stand, so much so she induces nightmares of obsession gone overboard.

With a very selective soundtrack (one original composition, two romantic staples and live jazz.) the suspense is left for the editing and acting. This film scores a perfect ten in my books in these two areas among other categories.

One of my all-time favorite films!
