 Written on September 5, 1999 Summary: The most underrated of Cohen's works . . . it contains several masterpieces. "The Traitor" is one of the most subtle and terrifying songs ever recorded: "I kiss her open mouth and I praise her beauty/ And people call me traitor to my face." Also brilliant are: "Ballad of Absent Mare," "Came So Far For Beauty," "Humbled in Love," "Lost Canadian," and "Gypsy Wife."  Written on July 19, 1999 Summary: Not at his best I love Cohen's songs, but I think this album is rather weak. May be his 'less convincing' of all! If you are not a big fan, avoid it (try 'I'm your man', 'the future', or his earliest releases). Written on April 8, 1999 Summary: EXCELENT, A WORK OF ART BY LEONARD COHEN IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A LOT FROM COHEN, THIS IS THE ALBUM TO BUY, MUSICALLY SPEAKING IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND, AN AMAZING MIXTURE OF CLASSICAL SOUNDS (ESPECIALLY THE VIOLIN) COME TOGHETHER CREATING A BEUTIFULL TRIP IN TO LEONARD'S MIND. SONGS LIKE "THE GIPSY WIFE" OR "THE GUESTS" ARE SIMPELY FINE WORKS OR ART, ALSO LISTEN TO "THE FENCH CANADIAN"(SANG IN FREANCH) OVER ALL AN AWESOME PIECE OF POETRY. SINCERELY EDUARDO MAYER. Written on January 12, 1999 Summary: Not divine, but very great This very good album may not be one of Cohen's best albums, but that's only because most of the other albums are so divine. It also seems to be Cohen's forgotten album. It's partially his own fault, because last year he didn't put any track of "Recent songs" on his "More greatest hits" album, but it had been forgotten for a longer period of time. Yet this album has some splendid songs like: "The Guests", "My Gypsy Wife", "Our lady of Solitude" and there aren't any bad songs, except maybe for "The lost Canadian". True, except for "Death of a Ladies' man" I like all the other albums better than this one, but still it remains a great album. Written on September 14, 1998 Summary: Leonard Cohen does it again! Leonard continues to be one the greatest poets/philosophers in the music industry today. In this album, he takes a little bit of a departure from his usual music, but still manages to pound meaning into the ears and mind of every listener he graces the musical presence of. A beautiful album by a beautiful man. |
