Summary: Immersion software that really works!
I've been working with the Rosetta stone software for about 3 weeks now, as little as a couple of hours a week, and I am already noticing remarkable results. For example, at the grocery, I can pick words out of packages that are bilingual. The seemingly simplistic activities are really sticking with me! I have a heck of a time with pronounciation, though. It will drill you and drill you until you get that part right. :)

I wanted to note also that my copy came with a set of headphones in the box, I didn't know it would have them, so I ordered an extra set. If you're looking to save a few bucks, keep that in mind. :)

Summary: Excellent addition to a learning program
My Spanish has always gotten me around Mexico and South and Central America OK but I always stumbled through anything much more than getting on a bus or ordering food. Since I am giving serious thought to retiring in Central America or Mexico I decided this was a good time to pick it up a few notches. I also frankly find it embarrassing that when working in other countries all educated people are multilingual while I am stuck with tourist Spanish and English. The Spanish Latin America V.3 has been an excellent resource for me. As several reviewers have pointed out, no one book, CD, etc. is going to teach most people a foreign language. However, I have found it to be a great underpinning of my study. I combine it a Learn Spanish in your Car CD series, dictionaries, TV, Spanish language newspapers and forcing native Spanish speakers to endure my grating speech. What I have found most useful about RS is that it has made these other resources much more helpful. The Learn in you car CD sat around for years without much use but now I find it useful when combined with RS. Much the same with other resources. So pick up a copy and then immerse yourself with as much written and spoken Spanish as you can from all avenues.

   Summary: Product Support is Essential!
I recently purchased Rosetta Stone Spanish from Amazon.com. I was initially delighted by the product and its approach to learning a new language. I then started having problems. I realized that an essential part to writing Spanish is the inverted question mark at the beginning of every question. I could not determine a way to make this symbol and I contacted Rosetta Stone Support via the internet and via telephone. I was amazed to learn that the normal level of support could not solve my problem and was told I would have to talk to a supervisory level. I was finally contacted by supervision 4 days later. In the meantime, I decided that this was not going to work and returned the product to Amazon.

   Summary: muy fabuloso
This is a very good product, I've already learned so much. I didn't realize it was a total immersion program, some translation would be nice but they use so much repetition that I can eventually tell what it means.
I really do enjoy it, I go to Mexico on medical missions trips, which is why I got this. So now I'm even more excited to go to see how much I really did learn :)

Summary: Excellent program, though very overpriced
Hola! You truly can become fluent Spanish with this product, and in relatively very little time. They have made learning a new language by yourself as fun and easy as it can possibly be. Instead of just rote memorization, they've turned it into sort of a game, and they very cleverly use heavy repetition in a way that doesn't seem repetitious at all because the images and situations are always different. For example, you have a lesson which focuses on pronunciation in which you speak into a microphone and it judges your accent, then there's a lesson that focuses on writing in which you write down what you see (image of an apple: right down "una manzana"), etc. Each little lesson builds on the last, so you don't just forget everything after you complete a lesson and take a few days off. There is a huge amount of information that is poured down on you, but it's done in a very manageable way that allows you to actually LEARN the material instead of just memorizing it for the purposes of completing each lesson. If you have taken Spanish in high school then you will have an easier time, but even if you don't have a background in Spanish, if you're willing to work hard at this and have fun with it and look forward to doing it every day, then you will learn Spanish fast.

I took a star off because of the price. Get it used if you can, because honestly it's not worth the price for an average student. If you are a person who gets paid by the hour, then it probably is worth the price because it'll save you a lot of valuable time in learning a new language.
