Joe Ehrmann, a former NFL football star and volunteer coach for the Gilman high school football team, teaches his players the keys to successful defense: penetrate, pursue, punish, love. Love? A former captain of the Baltimore Colts and now an ordained minister, Ehrmann is serious about the game of football but even more serious about the purpose of life. Season of Life is his inspirational story as told by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jeffrey Marx, who was a ballboy for the Colts when he first met Ehrmann. Ehrmann now devotes his life to teaching young men a whole new meaning of masculinity. He teaches the boys at Gilman the precepts of his Building Men for Others program: Being a man means emphasizing relationships and having a cause bigger than yourself. Written on May 16, 2007 Summary: Great message / Great read I don't want to spoil the book for anyone by talking about it. Suffice it to say I had my boys read it, and actually suggested that it be required reading for all coaches in my town's recreation department. Written on April 12, 2007 Summary: Season of Life: A Football Star, a Boy, a Journey to Manhood It wasn't what I thought it would be but I enjoyed it. Written on April 10, 2007 Summary: A Powerful Lesson This moving book uses football as a backdrop to teach how to life others up. All fathers and coaches should read this! Written on March 29, 2007 Summary: The Model for Youth Sports Training What if every young man and woman in this country had the opportunity to play on a team like the Gilman football team? How would we treat each other then? What would the world look like two generations later? Would the Kingdom of Heaven finally arrive? I have read no better book that describes a real world process for teaching young men how God designed us to relate to each other. Written on March 19, 2007 Summary: Inspirational reading! This was a wonderful book. We originally bought a copy for our son who is a girls' soccer coach, thought it might be of some help. He read it and was so moved, returned it to his Dad to read, thinking of their very positive father/son relationship. We then bought a copy for our son-in-law who is the proud new father of a little boy. It has so much of value in it not just for coaches and fathers, but for anyone who deals with boys of any age...or girls, for that matter. What a wonderful world it would be if we all raised our children and treated others in the ways suggested by this book! Its definitely a "must read"! |
