 Written on December 1, 2007 Summary: One of my all time favorite musicals Up until now, my favorite musicals have been Chorus Line, Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair. This is the best show I have seen -- hands down. I was lucky enough to see the show twice on Broadway -- both times with John Gallegher, Jr. as Moritz. He was simply fantastic and is on this CD. I really can't speak highly enough about it. My favorite songs: Bitch of Living and I don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind -- with the latter absolutely electrical to see in person with John Gallegher, Jr. and Lauren Pritchard. And, as others have written, I can't stop thinking about it or playing it. Really great! Written on December 1, 2007 Summary: something I can relate to I haven't seen the show. And unless it comes to California (again) or clips are released on youtube I never will. But with out seeing the show the music has made a deep impact in my life. Even though I haven't gone through anything these teens have I can still relate to the song lyrics. I love the rock and roll style of the show, if teens were to break out into song I don't think it would be a la Sound of Music or West Side Story. It would be in the tones found here. There are a few songs I didn't care for (Purple Summer and Mirror Blue Night) but everything else has been on repeat on my iPod.  Written on November 14, 2007 Summary: God Help Broadway.... ....if this is the future of the Broadway theater. I have listened to this CD several times and tried (I really did..) to like it, thinking that maybe I was missing something and not being entirely open to it. But,My Junk seems appropriatte for this graphic, obscene mess. Teenage sexual angst in pre-World War I Germany? ...give me a break. The music is terrible...Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Lerner and Lowe, Gershwin, Berlin, etc..are all rolling over in their graves at what's become of Broadway when this nonsense wins the Tony! Written on November 13, 2007 Summary: Not Ground Breaking but surely ground shaking! I LLoovvee Spring Awakening (Even thought I wanted Grey Gardens to Win Best Musical at the Tony's) Now I have heard a lot about how S.A. is an amazing and ground breaking experience and how it's going to change the face of musical theatre FOREVER!!! Well I'm sorry to say that it isn't going to change a thing.. Now don't get me wrong S.A. is a wonderful show with a superb score, great book, wonderful cast, and genius directing and choreography But it's basically an alternative rock concert with some dialouge looped through it which in this context isn't a bad thing at all. the only problem is that all you get on the cd is the superb score which again isn't really a problem the standout songs include 1. Mamma Who Bore Me 2. Mamma Who Bore Me (Reprise) 4. The B*tch of Living 5. My Junk 9. And Then There Were None 12. Don't Do Sadness 13. Blue Wind 16. Totally F*ucked 20. The Song of Purple Summer IF you wanna rock out to a new age/ alternative/ Rock score that isn't from the 70's then pick this one up. Written on October 10, 2007 Summary: For the young and the young at heart This album, although fairly specific to the show, has some of the most inventive, clever, poignant and lyrical, music you will find in the contemporary modern American musical theater. The actors, young, spirited and dynamic, give perfomances that will raise your blood pressure, tear your heart out and bring tears to your eyes. Their portrayal of youth in the past pays homage to us all and our own experiences of growing up. See it ,listen to it, cherish it. |
