Professional Review:
To coincide with the release of digitally remastered and expanded versions of all eight of their studio albums, the legendary 80s synthpop duo present this updated greatest hits collection. Daring and provocative, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart sold millions of records with their sophisticated, adult-oriented pop. This CD contains all their finest tunes as well as the new single 'I've Got A Life' and is also available as a DVD.

   Summary: Eurythmics-Ultimate is right!
Whenever I think of the best decade of music history (the 80's), I think of all the talent who made it so memorable. I have great respect for artists who made non-stop hits and still do now, like Madonna, who's success in 1984 led her to a string of nearly 40 top ten hits. Also, Michael Jackson had some great music...many artists contributed their talents and diversities to the greatest decade in music, but one of the most diverse and successful of all is the Eurythmics. They stand out whenever I think of the 80's, because they were so different. This new greatest hits collection includes classic hits like "Sweet Dreams", "Who's That Girl?". "Here Comes The Rain Again", "There Must be an Angel [Playing with my Heart]", "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves", "I Saved The World Today", and much more. The 19 song compilation ranges with hits from their 1981 debut album, to their chart topping 1982 "Sweet Dreams" album, and soforth all the way to their 1999 comeback album, which doesn't sound too bad at all from the singles put here. I am a new fan of this duo, but not new to loving the 80's. I was born at the end of the 80's [I lived in 1 year and a half in the 80's], obviously not old enough to know what music even was. Fortunately, I have a great respect for all music and ever since a young age, I'd always listen to stations that played 80's music. The Eurythmics hold a special place in my `music' heart because they are, in my opinion, one of the greatest things to happen to music since Elvis Presley.

I also like Annie Lennox's solo album 'Diva', which includes the song "Walking on Broken Glass", one of the most bumpable pop tunes of the early 90's!

   Summary: An amazing CD compillation
The Eurythmics were one of the biggest names during the 1980's through early 90's. Although I was born after most of their hits were released, I absolutely love them and I love the 80's (Although I was born at the end of the decade), I think the 80's had some of the best songs ever made, and these polished, amazing hits will never grow tiring or old.

   Summary: Excellent But Not Ultimate
First of all let me say that no single CD could ever contain all of the best Eurythmics material. I think 3 discs minimum would be considered "ultimate". For die-hard fans like me, this set leaves a lot to be desired. For instance, there is nothing on this collection from "In The Garden", "1984 (For The Love Of Big Brother)", "Touch Dance", or "We Too Are One". Some bonus tracks would be good too. All of that aside, it is a wonderful CD, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a new Eurythmics fan. Every older track sounds better than ever remastered, and the two new songs are as good as it gets. "I've Got A Life" is classic Eurythmics lite-techno dance-meets lyrical drama, and "Was It Just Another Love Affair?" sounds like something from one of Annie's excellent solo albums. The photos included in this collection are also superb! And Lyrics to all the songs! While it could be better, I do highly recommend "Ultimate Collection" to any Eurythmics fan...and if you're obsessed like me, you're gonna get it anyway!

Summary: Documentation of a formidable singles band.
The greatest hits set, "The Ultimate Collection" offers ample evidence of this band's ability to create great songs. They were quite a formidable singles machine.
The first dozen or so cuts remind you how they were all over the radio/MTV for a few years, and you'll find you know these songs by heart.
After opening with a new cut, and the thin "Love is a Stranger", you get one classic after another.
"Sweet Dreams", with that fat synth and those soulful, evocative yet still icy-cool vocals of Annie Lennox, became their introduction to the pop world. They had a signature sound, and then spent the next two albums refining and expanding it.
"Who's That Girl" and "Here Comes The Rain Again" are two exquisite singles that follow in "Dreams" vein, but I'm delighted to see (and hear) the joyous "Right By Your Side" making the list here.
The next three powerhouse tunes come off their "third" album, with "Would I Lie To You" showing off Dave Stewart's exuberant, chord-spewing guitar work. "Angel" is a soft, haunting, sweet pop-soul confection, and "Sisters" is an anthemic, R&B stomp with twitchy guitars from Mr. Stewart and towering vocals from none other than Miss Aretha Franklin.
After than opening salvo, the quality declines...but not by much (except that "I Need A Man" fiasco...)...I thought "17 Again" was particularly affecting (as opposed to 'affected'...see above)...

Overall, with nice remastering and 19 songs, this is an easy five-star package. You couldn't have asked for more in a single-disc summation of this killer band's catalogue.

   Summary: malevich
I hesitated to buy this collection but gave in for the two new songs, which are great fun. A wonderful combination of classic Eurythmics sound and recent dance hits. But the real reason, and a surprise I might add, is how great the old songs sound. Lennox's vocals are clear and crisp and the songs sound better than ever. A testament to the duo's staying power and an example of the hotbed of creativity of the 80's. And this is a better selection than thier previous Greatest Hits album with Right By Your Side (If you don't get up a dance to this song, as they say, "you better go have your heart checked") and It's Allright(Baby's comming Back) two notable additions. I was playing this CD in the car after buying it at the mall and on my way to the supermarket. After I grabbed my shopping cart and entered the store and was in the produce section on came Sweet Dreams(Are Made of This) and it reminded me of a moment years back when I was in Minsk eating an uninspiring lunch in an austere hotel when this same song came on over the speakers. Then, as it was today, was like a warm embrace from an old friend. This CD is a most for any fan of Eurythmics or the music scene of the 80's.
