Written on December 17, 2007 Summary: Good book full of common sense This is actually a good book. Its full of common sense information about how to care for black hair without the empty promises or hocus pocus. Her product line is pretty generic, but I think that's the point. I re-read this every few months just to remind myself what's achievable and what's not with my hair. Very few, if any, illustrations though.  Written on October 30, 2007 Summary: great common sense book! i have bought this book in total ignorance. i began following the basic hair routine from this book and found it works for many cultures! Yes, many Caucasions, Asians, and other cultures have 4c hair too, believe it or not. 4c hair is 4c hair, whether it's on a caucasion or any other race. I was going to an African american beautician who claimed she knew her stuff - like many beauticians do..apparently she didn't..when i took my hair into my own hands..and followed Cathy Howse's instructions, my hair changed dramatically..and of course, the beautician thought it was her "expertise"...i had been seeing her for 5 years..and after 3 months Cathy Howse's book made a difference..oh, i fired the beautician by the way...  Written on June 17, 2007 Summary: Not Impressed I expected a lot from this book. However, I was sorely disappointed. The author provides a lot of good tips, but I wished she had gone into greater depth. I felt as if she only scratched the surface, and that's why I am so disappointed. Written on June 12, 2007 Summary: Did Not Need To Put It In A Book When you get down to it, I just wanted to know basically what I was doing wrong and tell me what I SHOULD be doing. Ms Howse could just have easily put her information in a phamplet or on her site and let us order the hair products. I will absolutley use her suggestions and will try her products. Written on June 4, 2007 Summary: Handy The information in the book was undoubtfully handy. I learned things that I never knew about hair and I was able to incorporate her tips into my own hair care regime. My only disappointment however is that she seems pretty darn fixated with selling her hair products (even more-so in her website). With a lot of research I had done on natural ingrdients (ingredients you may have in your house), I realised that I can use her tips without having to spend the costs on her products OR ANY brandname product. I even managed to improve the tips she gives (with research). Online research goes a long way. But I'm still glad that I bought the book. Before, I didn't have a stable hair regimin and I did things pretty randomly. Now I have system of washing, conditioning...etc. My hair has never felt better. (not weighed down, bouncier, VERY moisterized) |
