Professional Review:
Those leery and weary of tasteless crossover need not shudder at the sight of this disc, which has sold over half a million copies in Europe. There's none of the softcore kiddie porn that came with Vanessa-Mae or the heavily packaged faux romanticism of Andrea Bocelli. (That of course doesn't necessarily mean that you'll want Voice of an Angel.) This 12-year-old Welsh soprano is so uncloyingly cute and has such an appealing personality (with just enough touch of cheek) that you'd almost rather have her as a dinner guest than on your CD player. Her small, attractive, sometimes unstable but always sincere soprano perhaps went to the top of the British charts because it clicks into the boy-soprano choir tradition so prevalent there, especially since many of the selections are sacred items such as "The Lord's Prayer" and "Ave Maria." And Church may pick up some fans thanks to the tail end of Celtic chic, with the Welsh folk songs and the rendition of "Danny Boy." But this promises to be yet another short-lived media phenomenon, rather than the beginning of a lengthy career. --David Patrick Stearns

   Summary: boycott
Given this young performer's recent disrespect of the Catholic Church, the Pope, etc, I will not support her by any means.

   Summary: Retrospection
I must admit that when I first heard this CD when I was 12 or 13, I was amazed at her voice, and yes, perhaps a little jealous. Unfortunately, now that I am an college voice major, I can see that Charlotte was not only starting off too young, but was also doing some very unhealthy things vocally. She shouldn't have been trying to make a career for herself at such a young age- I think that a classical singer has no business making CD's at age 12, or even 20! I would like to think that she had potential, but whatever he had has now been pretty much lost, and I pity her for that. I only wish that she had been allowed to mature, because she has pretty much put an end to any career she might have as a singer of any real worth.

The thing that I thought was really too bad about this album was that some of the pieces had such a beautiful orchestral part that I was somewhat disappointed when Charlotte began to sing. "Jerusalem", in particular could have been such a stirring and beautiful piece (and I'm not even British!) that Charlotte's lackluster performance frustrated me exceedingly. I don't mean to be Marianne Dashwood-ish, but if a person doesn't sing with emotion, they shouldn't be singing at all.

I don't mean to "bash" on Charlotte Church because I know from experience how hard it is to be a performer- I only wish that she could have waited a few years before trying to be a professional singer.

   Summary: only 12???
My God...she has an amazing voice for a 12 year old...unbelievable. Her singing isn't yet very polished (as in not always being in tune, taking breaths where they shouldn't be taken)...but for her age she's still phenomenal. But I just couldn't give it 5 stars bc I beleive they rushed her to make a cd before she was mature enough.

   Summary: Odd sound
I know she has incredible talent for one so young, but I found this cd more disturbing than relaxing. One moment her voice is soaring, the next she sounds like a six-year-old singing nursery rhymes. Of course, her voice has gotten better over the years, but still, this cd is just such an odd mixture, I found it difficult to enjoy it. Her voice is just too inconsistent. However, if you enjoy Charlotte Church because of her innocence and youth, I would like to recommend another singer- Aselin Debison. Her image is just as innocent, and her voice is pure, clear, and sweet. It may not have the strength of Charlotte's, but it's more consistent, and therefore more pleasing.
