 Written on April 12, 2007 Summary: She really is the man! She's the Man starring the very funny Amanda Bynes is enjoyable from start to finish. Hunky Channing Tatum also stars as Duke, the boy Viola has a major crush on. Viola's high school soccer team is canceled from the program and decides to impersonate her twin brother, Sebastian at his boarding school so she can play soccer there while her bro is in London for two weeks. Bynes's physical comedy is invetible, her acting is refreshing and she has always reminded me of a young Lucille Ball. Bynes is never afraid to be sexy, goofy, and awkward all at the same time. This film is based on a loose adaptation of Shakespeare's Twelth Night. She's the Man had me laughing practically the whole way through. I highly recommend this teen romantic comedy. Enjoy! Written on April 5, 2007 Summary: Such a funny movie I wanted to see this movie because I really liked Amanda Bynes in "What a Girl Wants" and I thought she would be good in this role. I was not disappointed. This movie was so funny and Amanda did such a good job. Really, all of the characters were cast really well, and each person fit his/her role perfectly. I first saw this movie on TV and since they kept playing it for several weeks, I kept watching it over and over again. The more I watched it the more I liked it and finally I had to buy it since they stopped showing it on TV! If you are looking for a good laugh you should definitely watch this movie. Written on March 26, 2007 Summary: Shakespeare! Seriously. For some reason, Shakespeare translates very well to modern high school. I think it's the social cliques and emotions running high. I think this is one of the funnier adaptations, along the lines of "10 Things I Hate About You," but with the story line for "Twelfth Night" instead of "Taming of the Shrew." The actors didn't hold back on the comedy, the adaptation is well written, and the story is a classic. I actually think the disguises make more sense than in the original play; where in the original, people actually got the twins mixed up, in this adaptation, no one who knew either of them really well got a good look at Viola when she was being Sebastian. There were lots of nice references back to the original, as well: Duke's speech at the end, the spider "Malvolio," Cesario's pizza place. If you like Shakespeare or teenage romantic comedies OR sports movies, I would recommend this one!  Written on March 16, 2007 Summary: I liked this better when it was called Just One of the Guys. She's the Man is pretty amusing and entertaining, but there are other movies in the same theme that are better, namely Just One of the Guys. I couldn't believe the similarities between the movies: even down to the "I have to do this for two weeks in another school to prove myself" theme. I remember Amanda Bynes from Nickelodeon, and I really liked her brand of comedy. She's pretty good at carrying the movie. Bottom Line: a decent movie but nowhere near great. Written on March 7, 2007 Summary: She IS the Man... I actually laughed out LOUD on this movie! Predictable? Of course, but still fun...and the family can actually watch (and laugh) with you! Four stars for this movie! |
